What are the common types of fiberglass mat?

I. Fiberglass Needle-Punched Felt

Fiberglass needle-punched felt is widely used in industries such as carbon black, steel, non-ferrous metals, chemicals, and incineration. In China, industrial filtration materials are the primary application area for fiberglass needle-punched felt.

Fiberglass needle-punched felt is used in automotive interior decoration, as well as for sound absorption, heat insulation, vibration damping, and flame retardancy. It contributes to vehicle lightweighting and efficient space utilization. Needle-punched felt can be combined with recycled fibers for use as roof and door linings, engine hoods (adhered to the inside), engine and passenger compartment partitions, and trunk linings.

Utilizing the microporous nature of needle-punched felt, it provides excellent thermal insulation, making it suitable for insulating various heat-generating components in pipelines. Its filtration and sound absorption properties allow for use in silencers and dust collectors for automobiles and motorcycles, and it is widely used in hotels, entertainment venues, and professional soundproofing rooms for sound insulation, moisture reduction, and fireproofing.

Furthermore, fiberglass needle-punched felt can also be used in geotextiles and insulation materials.

II. Continuous Fiberglass Mat

Continuous fiberglass mat uses continuous fiberglass filaments as the main raw material. This type of nonwoven continuous filament mat, containing a non-soluble binder, is compatible with unsaturated polyester, epoxy, phenolic, and polyurethane resins in both unfilled and filled resin systems. The product can be used in resin transfer molding (RTM), vacuum forming, and pultrusion processes, such as automotive headliners and transformer insulation materials.

III. Chopped Straight Fiberglass Mat

Choped straight straight fiberglass mat is made by bonding chopped fiberglass filaments with powder or emulsion binders. Chopped straight straight mat is mainly used in the manufacture of fiberglass products through hand lay-up molding, winding molding, and compression molding processes. Typical products include bathroom fixtures, pipes, building materials, automobiles, furniture, cooling towers, and other fiberglass products.

IV. Fiberglass Surface Mat

Fiberglass surface mat is mainly used as the surface layer of fiberglass products. The product itself features uniform fiber dispersion, soft texture, good fiber surface smoothness, low glue content, fast resin impregnation speed, and good moldability. This product can significantly improve the surface corrosion resistance, pressure resistance, and leak-proof performance of the products, and has a long service life. In addition, this product is also suitable for spraying, molding, and other fiberglass molding technologies.

V. Fiberglass Roofing Mat

RGM is an excellent base material for making SBS, APP modified bitumen waterproof membranes and colored bitumen fiberglass shingles. The longitudinal reinforcement of the entire mat significantly improves the longitudinal tensile strength and tear resistance. Asphalt felt made with RM series mat as the base material overcomes the shortcomings of asphalt felt such as high-temperature flow, low-temperature brittleness, and easy aging, resulting in excellent weather resistance, enhanced leak-proof performance, and extended service life. Therefore, it is an ideal base material for roofing felt and other materials. At the same time, RGM series mat can also be used as a base material for building insulation layers.

VI. Fiberglass Stitch-Cut Strand Mat

Stitch-woven chopped strand mat is suitable for use with unsaturated polyester resins, vinyl ester resins, phenolic resins, and epoxy resins. This product is widely used in pultrusion molding, hand lay-up molding, and resin transfer molding processes. Major end products include: fiberglass hulls, sheets, pultruded profiles, and pipe linings. Stitch-woven chopped strand mat is a mat sheet made by chopping untwisted fiberglass rovings to a certain length, laying them evenly and non-directionally, and then stitching them together with a loop structure.

VII. Untwisted Roving Composite Mat

Untwisted roving composite mat is suitable for use with unsaturated polyester resins, vinyl ester resins, phenolic resins, and epoxy resins. This product is widely used in fiberglass pultrusion molding, hand lay-up molding, and resin transfer molding processes.

Untwisted roving composite mat is most widely used in the shipbuilding industry. Major end products include: fiberglass hulls, automobile bodies, sheets, refrigeration equipment, car doors, and profiles. Untwisted roving composite mat is a glass fiber mat sheet made by laminating a layer of uniformly laid, non-directional chopped filaments onto untwisted roving and then stitching them together using a coil structure.

VIII. Glass Fiber Sandwich Composite Mat

Sandwich composite mat is made by stitching together a synthetic nonwoven core material with chopped fiber layers (without adhesive) or fiber cloth or multi-axial fabric on both sides or one side. The product is suitable for resin transfer molding (RTM), vacuum bag molding, compression molding, injection molding, and SRIM processes.

IX. Glass Fiber Stitch-Woven Composite Mat

Stitch-woven composite mat is suitable for unsaturated polyester resins, vinyl ester resins, phenolic resins, and epoxy resins. This product is widely used in fiberglass pultrusion, hand lay-up molding, and resin transfer molding processes.

Stitch-woven composite mat is most widely used in the shipbuilding industry, with main end products including: fiberglass hulls, automobile bodies, sheets, refrigeration equipment, car doors, and profiles.

Stitch-bonded composite felt is a glass fiber mat sheet made by unidirectionally parallel arrangement of untwisted rovings at 0, 90°, or ±45°, combined with a layer of evenly laid chopped filaments, and then stitched together using a loop structure.

X. Glass Fiber Needle-Punched Composite Felt

Needle-punched composite felt is a new type of glass fiber reinforced material formed by needle-punching chopped filaments evenly distributed in a non-directional manner on a woven base fabric. This product contains no binders or other stitching threads and features good moldability and coverability, high three-dimensional strength, fast impregnation, and easy de-bubbling. It is suitable for hand lay-up, pultrusion, winding, GMT, RTM, and other molding processes.

XI. Air Purification Glass Fiber Loose Filter Felt

Air purification glass fiber loose filter felt is made of glass fiber and has a loose texture. Therefore, it has a large dust holding capacity and a long service life, making it an excellent material for primary air filtration.
