Which products belong to the category of wet-laid fiberglass mat?

The production process of wet-laid fiberglass mat is actually similar to that of papermaking. This time, I'll briefly explain the production flow; I'll explain the details of each step in a separate article later.

Before production begins, the length of the raw material fiberglass varies depending on the product's type and intended use. Generally, short-cut fiberglass between 3-12mm in length is mixed with water and adhesive. Of course, depending on the product's performance, additional chemical additives are also needed. For example, flame retardants are added for fire-retardant applications, and colorants are added for dyeing. After mixing to form a uniform slurry, the slurry is spread onto a conveyor belt through a headbox. Vacuum dehydration forms a wet fiber web. Then, a special adhesive for wet-laid fiberglass mat, such as acrylic or urea-formaldehyde resin, is sprayed onto the spread fiberglass web. Excess adhesive is removed by a large fan as the product passes through the conveyor belt. It then enters an oven at 200-250℃ for drying and curing to ensure the adhesive is fully cured. Finally, after cooling, the product is rolled up and packaged. This is a simplified production process.

Next, let's discuss the commonly used types of fiberglass wet-laid felt in various industries. These include:

Fiberglass Surface Felt: Primarily used on the surfaces of molds and fiberglass products. It effectively covers product textures, improves surface smoothness, and prevents exposed fiberglass fibers from affecting aesthetics.

Fiberglass Roofing Felt: Mainly used in building roofs and waterproof membranes. It effectively improves membrane strength, tear resistance, and aging resistance, preventing cracking and deformation, and extending roof lifespan.

Fiberglass Reinforced Felt: Fiberglass reinforcing strips are added to the surface of the wet-laid felt to increase tensile strength. It is mainly used in building waterproofing, building material decoration, electronic substrates, and heat tracing wrapping. It boasts excellent tensile strength and tear resistance.

Fiberglass Insulation Felt: Insulation felt is thicker than ordinary wet-laid felt. Its main functions are thermal insulation, sound absorption and noise reduction, and fire retardancy. Applications include high-temperature equipment, aerogel, high-temperature pipelines, and insulation for everyday household appliances.

Fiberglass Electronic Mat: Electronic mat is a high-end product among wet-laid thin mats, mainly used for the surface layer of copper-clad laminate circuit boards and as a substrate for electronic devices. Its properties include excellent insulation, dimensional stability, good resin wetting, and uniform porosity, making it a dedicated substrate in the electronics and electrical fields.

Fiberglass Floor Mat: This is a type of wet-laid thin mat specifically for PVC and resilient flooring. Its main properties are environmental friendliness, moisture and corrosion resistance, dimensional stability, and it effectively prevents floor shrinkage and warping, increases strength, and is an indispensable reinforcing material for PVC and LVT flooring products.

Fiberglass Carpet Mat: This is a fiberglass material specifically for carpet tiles, mainly used in PVC carpets and high-end carpet backings. It serves as reinforcement between the carpet and the adhesive layer, and it does not shrink, bulge, or warp in environments with varying temperatures and humidity.

Dyed fiberglass felt: Also known in the industry as colored fiberglass thin felt, and in the market as fireproof dyed felt, it is made by dyeing white fiberglass thin felt into the required color according to the color card. It has flame-retardant and fireproof, sound absorption and noise reduction functions, and is mainly used in building decoration, thermal insulation cotton lining and other products and projects that require flame-retardant and fireproof properties.
