Detailed Specifications And Performance Of Fiberglass Insulation Felt
Fiberglass wet-laid thin sheet insulation felt, as the name suggests, is used for thermal insulation products. Currently, its most common applications are in new energy aerogel, pipeline insulation wrapping, and automotive roof insulation. The manufacturing process is similar to roofing felt, but the main difference is that it is much thicker, typically ranging from 150g to 500g. Higher weight means greater thickness. According to textile thickness gauge measurements, the corresponding thickness is generally around 0.12mm to 4.5mm. Thickness can be customized according to customer requirements, including product stiffness, flame retardancy, width, and other performance characteristics and specifications.
Taking 300g fiberglass insulation felt as an example, its long-term temperature resistance can reach approximately 260℃, and its short-term instantaneous resistance can reach approximately 300℃. Its thermal conductivity is 0.037W/(m·K). 300g insulation felt offers good thermal insulation performance. Higher weights, due to denser fibers, reduce air porosity, resulting in a slight increase in thermal conductivity. The product is resistant to acids, alkalis, salt spray, oil, and other chemicals. With a moisture content of ≤1%, the insulation layer is less prone to moisture absorption and product failure.
Regarding air permeability, higher weight insulation felt generally has lower permeability. For example, 150g–300g felt offers moderate permeability, facilitating the escape of moisture from the insulation layer. 400g–500g felt, with its high fiberglass density, exhibits even lower permeability and is more suitable for products requiring the barrier against oil, gas, acid, and alkali vapors.
In terms of application classification by weight:
150g–200g insulation felt is relatively lightweight and soft, offering good fit when wound around pipes and requiring less cutting effort. It is suitable for curved surfaces, small components, and multi-layer composites; its lower weight also results in lower tensile strength. 300g insulation felt is a standard weight in the industry, balancing strength and flexibility. It is the mainstream specification for industrial pipe insulation, suitable for both wrapping and tank insulation, offering the best cost-performance ratio, and is used in large quantities. 400g–500g is relatively thick, and the product will feel harder. It is often used for large-area flat laying or for products with large bending radii. It is more troublesome to wrap small bends. It has better tensile strength.
