Expandable and interchangeable

  BASF has collaborated with award-winning Spanish designer Inma bermúdez to develop a modular concept shelf made of wood and fiberglass reinforced thermoplastic. All plastic elements are expandable and interchangeable, and each shelf can carry 100 kg. In mass production, the product can be made from renewable raw materials to replace current fossil-based raw materials. Sustainable design enables efficient production processes with minimal use of raw materials, thereby reducing the carbon footprint of the product. Creative Center

  Bermúdez and her partner Moritz Krefter drew inspiration for the design of the OTTO rack from architecture, especially bridge construction, and had help from the team at BASF's Creative Center in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The Creative Center consists of industrial designers, material and simulation experts. To achieve this, simulation, material experts and 3D printing worked closely together.
