Do you know about new smart containers made of fiberglass composites?
Containers are key to global trade – around 80% of the world's products are transported this way. Aeler Technologies SA (Lausanne, Switzerland), a start-up at the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, has further promoted the development and progress of the container industry by creating a new generation of smart containers through fiberglass composites. The company noted that this new smart container can provide greater payload, higher strength, and better insulation. The container design also includes a sleek exterior and embedded sensors that send data directly to the app, enabling operators to track cargo, monitor transportation conditions, and streamline fleet management. João Silva, Executive Director of ETE Group Navex, noted that Aeler's new generation of smart containers offers significant innovations that will help make the maritime industry more efficient, sustainable and competitive. Strong, insulated and intelligent, this fiberglass composite makes smart containers capable of transporting more cargo, reducing marine transport emissions by 20% and fuel consumption by 4%, resulting in cost savings and environmental benefits. And integrate embedded sensors for tracking and monitoring. Specifically:
(1) 17% increase in payload. The composite wall of the container provides higher strength and does not expand;
(2) The structure of the container is insulated, and the temperature change is significantly reduced. It also reduces assembly time and costs, providing a viable alternative to reefers for specific uses, making containers ideal for sensitive cargo;
(3) Proprietary IoT creates visibility, with special emphasis on the security of all key stakeholders. The control tower allows Aeler to see where and "how" containers and their cargo are at all times.
