Turning waste into treasure! The counterattack of coal gangue - high-performance fiberglass?

Inner Mongolia is rich in coal resources, with wide distribution and large reserves. A large amount of coal-based solid waste is generated during coal mining, washing and processing, and coal gangue is one of them. Its calorific value is low and it is difficult to use. It is often piled up in the open air around the mining area, occupying land resources and seriously damaging the ecological environment. It has become a "hard nut to crack" problem restricting the ecological restoration of mines. How do these three seemingly unrelated substances, coal gangue, kaolin and fiberglass, form an industrial chain? How can coal gangue get rid of the identity of "solid waste" and create new value?

On March 17, we walked into Inner Mongolia Tianhao New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. in Qingshuihe County, Hohhot City, where coal gangue can be calcined to obtain kaolin raw materials for making fiberglass, turning it into a high-value-added substrate product. "Through more than ten years of research and development, we have built the first large-scale coal gangue suspension calcination production line in China, using low-carbonization methods to make high-value use of coal gangue and transform coal mine waste into new industrial raw materials." Ye Guoqiang, general manager of Inner Mongolia Tianhao New Materials Technology Co., Ltd., introduced. In Horqin County, less than 100 kilometers away from here, in the production workshop of Inner Mongolia Tianhao Fiberglass Co., Ltd., in a kiln of more than 1,000 degrees Celsius, the fiberglass substrate calcined from coal gangue is melted into glass liquid, and then through processes such as drawing, shaping, and coating, it is finally made into high-performance fiberglass thinner than a hair.

"At present, the first phase of Tianhao Fiberglass's 600,000-ton annual high-performance fiberglass production base project - a 120,000-ton production line has been put into production and entered the national market. It is used in cutting-edge fields such as new energy, aerospace, and automotive lightweight equipment manufacturing. The annual output value is expected to reach 500 million yuan." Liu Lingxia, chairman of Inner Mongolia Tianhao Fiberglass Co., Ltd., introduced that the company takes technological innovation as its core driving force and has also invested in the construction of downstream supporting enterprises in the Sharqin Industrial Park in the Hohhot Economic and Technological Development Zone. It mainly operates new material fiberglass products such as glass fiber reinforced plastic continuous winding sand-filled pipes, builds a complete industrial chain, and promotes the rapid and healthy development of the local physical manufacturing industry.
